GAFFNEY, South Carolina (AP) — Baseball Hall of Famer Two-time Cy Young Award winner Gaylord Perry has died at the age of 84. Cherokee County homeless Dennis Fowler said Perry died at his home in Gaffney, South Carolina, at about 5 a.m. Thursday of natural causes. He did not provide additional details. Berry played for eight major league teams from 1962 through 1983. He won a Cy Young title with Cleveland in 1972 and with San Diego in 1978 just after he turned 40. in 1991.

He played in Major League Baseball as a right-handed pitcher for eight different teams from 1962 to 1983. Police say the incident happened just before 9 a.m. Thursday in the village of New Hempstead. Pictures posted on social media show a yellow school bus facing a building next to an overturned car. News reports said several children and the bus driver were taken to hospitals for treatment. The police did not release any details about the severity of their injuries.
France is making efforts to collect heirloom weapons across the country
BRUNOY, France (AP) France has launched a nationwide campaign to collect millions of old firearms, leftovers from two world wars or long-abandoned hunting trips. French Interior Ministry officials suspect that many unregistered weapons are kept by French families stashed in attics and storerooms as heirlooms in a country that has been the scene of many of the fiercest battles of the past century. Jean-Simon Mirandat, head of the Interior Ministry’s Central Agency for Weapons and Explosives, said he believed there were about 5 or 6 million weapons kept “irregularly” in the country, and that 80-90% of them were kept inherited. Authorities say there will be no legal consequences if the weapons are turned over within the full week of the drive ending Dec. 2.

Perry was a five-time All-Star and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1991. He earned his first All-Star selection in 1966, going 21-8 with a 2.99 ERA over 255 2/3 innings pitched for the Giants.
In 1968, Perry struck out nine batters en route to a no-hitter over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Perry remained a fan favorite in San Francisco after his retirement and was a frequent participant at Giants alumni events. He is among the giants immortalized by a statue outside Oracle Park in San Francisco.
He had a career record of 314-255, finished with 3,554 strikeouts, and used a pitching technique where he juggled baseballs or made batters think he was pitching them. His 1974 autobiography was Me and My Spit.
