Once you think about this movie, it’s a bit heavy. Young Nemo deals with a lot of grief as it manifests itself into something fantastical for her. Her bond with her father is the strongest aspect of this film, and the sequel could go in a very different direction.
In the second movie, her uncle Philip could be more involved as he gets to know Flip in Slumberland. There could be more symmetry between the two characters as Nemo gets older.
There may be a possibility that Nemo may forget about Slumberland or lose touch as she gets older. In the sequel, we can see a time jump to show her losing touch with that childlike crush that brought her closer to her father and Slumberland to keep the same tone.
Since Philip rediscovered his connection to Flip, he can help Nemo in the same way. It doesn’t seem like the same story but it could be a favor to Peter, who always kept this kid inside him.
