The new feature is called “TikTok ” and it allows users to shoot a photo or a short video using the front and back camera within a set. Users will be informed that “now is the time” and they will have three minutes to share their photo or video in an attempt to “be real” on social media.
If this sounds familiar to you, you’re not alone. Users immediately asked TikTok to copy BeReal, a relatively new social media app that gained popularity this year. BeReal uses front and back cameras and encourages users to post a photo within a set amount of time to see what their friends are up to in real-time. Even the notifications are basically the same with BeReal sending a “Time to BeReal” between two emojis. The biggest differences between the two is that TikTok Now allows users to post videos as well as photos and gives users an extra minute to post.
How to get this feature
In some countries, TikTok Now is available within the app while others will have to download it separately. If you’re seeing “Post to View” messages on your app, that means the new feature is available for in-app use in your country.

Download TikTok Now from Google Play or the App Store
Open the app
Create an account on the app. You can also use the one you have for TikTok. Click the Start as button if you want to use the account you’re currently logged into, or other TikTok accounts if you want to log in with another account.

While it is not certain if those who have the feature built into TikTok can disable TikTok Now completely, you can turn off daily notifications for that.
All you have to do is go to the privacy part of your settings and then go to content & activity. Next, scroll until you see Push Notifications. There should now be a TikTok Now section inside of that, so simply turn it off.
If you’re intrigued and want to subscribe but have to post to see it on TikTok, here’s how you can. All those who have the built-in feature just need to update the app since November 14th. If you are not one of those, you may need to download the app separately. Unfortunately, the app doesn’t appear to be available in the UK yet (at least for us!) so you might have to wait a bit before getting real on TikTok Now.
