Admission requirements
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply for the programs
- Age: You were at least 18 years old when you started the study. There is no upper age limit
- A qualification equivalent to a nine-year Finnish basic education
- A scan or photocopy of your original certificates
- Original certificates in English, Finnish or Swedish are accepted
- Certificates translated into English, Finnish or Swedish must be verified by a public notary
- Duolingo International English Language Test Certificate (see below).
- However, Sufficient funds for living expenses are provided on the applicant’s account to the Immigration Office for residence permit. More information on the website of the Finnish Immigration Service .
- Good physical condition for study and work.
- A valid passport attached to the application
English test
- Each applicant needs to have one of the following English language test scores submitted during application.
- Duolingo International English Language Test Certificate (minimum 85 points).
- IELTS General or Academic English Language Test for Training (5.5 band minimum).
- However, In the Duolingo test, choose Vamia as your school, submit the results, and save the file to attach to the app.
- We will only accept Duolingo from August 2024.
- The English language test cannot be waived .
- We do not accept any tests, diplomas or other qualifications as proof of language skill.
Application procedures
- Application link will be provided upon application submission.
- There is no fee for applying to Famia
- Application periods are organized twice a year, in January and August.
- The next application period is from 7 to 13 August 2023 for studies starting in January 2024. In this application period, only Cook and Waiter / Waitress programs can be applied.
- You can apply to one of the English language programs only.
- Fill out the application form accurately.
- Upload all required documents during the application period.
- You will be notified via email upon receipt of the request.
- Admission results will be announced approximately 1-2 months after the closing of the application period. All applicants, whether selected or not, will be informed.
- Moreover, A letter of acceptance will be sent to the selected new students. The acceptance letter includes information about health documents and how to apply for a residence permit.
- Start applying for your residence permit right away, in some countries application can take months!
Study start
- Approximately two months before classes begin, new students will receive an email about classes starting.
- Visit a doctor in your country to obtain the health documents we require.
- Before coming to Finland, send the results of laboratory tests, x-rays of the lungs [chest ( please note that x-rays are not to be sent)] and the doctors’ statement to the school nurse.
- Arrive in Finland in time for the start of studies.
- However, The first week will include orientation studies and practical information about the school.
- The school will provide fresh students with uniforms suitable for kitchen and restaurant/mechanical work.
- For students in restaurants and catering services, the following test is mandatory and will be taken in Vaasa: Salmonella.
