This recap of The White Lotus Season 2, Episode 4, “In the Sandbox,” contains spoilers.
It is the morning after the night before in Sicily, and in fact it is the same as elsewhere, only hotter. The feeling remains. It’s a lot of guilt, a lot of shame, a lot of nausea, and a lot of trying to cover up evidence.
The White Lotus Season 2 Episode 4
Ethan and Cameron do a poor job of that last sequel. After a night of debauchery in it Episode 3They rely on bro code and ignorance—willful and feigned—to keep their secrets. Harper returned to the ward for five minutes before finding an empty condom wrapper that they had left behind.
However, Harper isn’t doing anything with this information yet. Instead, she gives Ethan plenty of opportunities to figure things out on his own. And he should, really, because Cameron was the one who slept with Lucia. He accepted Isabella, sure, but backed out, which they probably could have considered if he had been honest about it. He’s not so lucky, however, and his secrecy makes him look even more culpable (needless to say, there’s no way Cameron could be so blunt if the situation were reversed).
But this is the first example of the episode’s recurring theme—relationships rapidly deteriorating. Portia and Albie, the cute couple on the show, ended up with very different suitors this week after misunderstandings, bad timing, and indecision foiled their union at every turn. Portia, who is being dragged along by Tanya, ends up meeting a strange Essex man named Jack (Leo Woodall) Who is everything Albie ever wanted to be but without any of the sensitivity. Meanwhile, Albie meets Lucia by chance, and clearly develops a crush on him, not letting Portia get ahead quickly in their surprising game of one-on-one supremacy.
By the way, the reason Tanya is dragging Portia around is because she’s trying not to think about Greg’s whereabouts, so instead she takes solace in Quentin (Tom Hollander), Jack’s uncle, a charming and possibly awful Englishman who gives Tanya all the flattery she needs to keep going.
“In the Sandbox” also provides our first real clue as to the identity of the body found in the premiere – at least one of them, anyway, since it’s implied there are several. But the likely candidate is Giuseppe (Federico Scripani), the hotel’s creepy pianist. Isabella decides that by sleeping with him she can fast-track her music career, but when she tries, he can’t have it. To help, she retrieves what she thinks are Lucia’s V****a, but because Lucia is so busy with Albie, she fails to distinguish between V****a and MDMA pills. Judging by the fact that a sweaty Giuseppe breaks down during his evening performance, Isabella seems to have given him the last.
It seems to me that this is the second season of white lotus Really finding the rhythm. I still think it’s far inferior to the first outing, but it gets there, and you can see the seeds of what Mike White It is best at the beginning of fruition. Hopefully, once Harper does something with her knowledge of Ethan and Cameron’s extramarital affairs, things will start to heat up a little more.
