We review Prime Video’s The People We Hate at the Wedding, which contains no spoilers.
Raise your hand if you’ve seen a movie about a woman in her 30s who sleeps with her boss, is married, and has a young child who swears he’s leaving his wife soon. check. Raise your hand if you’ve seen a movie where a man treats his partner terribly and gets involved in a toxic relationship. Check again. Finally, let me see your hands if you’ve seen a movie where a woman is abandoned by her ungrateful husband and struggles to find closure. Yes, she managed to take home all three classic awards in one movie. And rest assured, The people we hate at the wedding He managed to feel them all.
Well, at least the narrator ends the movie bluntly by saying that no one ever lives happily ever after because they all become worm food in the end. I can only assume Taco Bell because this product placement is all over England, which makes me think it must be the most popular fast food franchise in the nation’s history. That’s because this is where Eloise is when she’s looking for relief. (Yes, you read correctly). And you will need her with her family coming to town.
you have Alice (Kristen Bell)who calls her married boss Follow Favorite To England for weddings. He saves her, and she runs into a boyish-looking man, Denise (Dustin Milligan), and had a relationship with Paddington. Paul is Alice’s brother who is going to take his friend, Dominic (dead listKaran Soni), to the wedding. They are staying at the home of Dominic’s friend, Lothario Alcott (Julian Ovenden), which Paul quickly realizes his partner craves. Both are bitter and slightly jealous of Eloise’s success and treatment of their mother, Donna (Allison Janney), bad. Paul blames Donna for leaving her father. Meanwhile, Alice resents marriage to Eloise’s broken father, who took her sister away from her.
The people we hate at the weddingDirected by Claire Scanlon, very sparse and incredibly vulgar. However, the main problem is this – it’s not funny. The dialogue constantly aims to continually spin down the drain around the three subplots. Nothing is so funny that it rises above a mild sense of humor (even if you get there). Nor do most single-liners work—they miss the mark by a wide margin along with some casual remarks made by Bell, and even those that often feel like they’re pointing at a strong point.
text by Wendy and Lizzie Molyneux was an adaptation of Novel by Grant Ginder. The main issue is that there are no characters you really care about. While the novel meticulously reveals the secrets that will ultimately warm you to the cynical group, the movie drops them on your head like briquettes of ash without warning or care. It’s a bizarre experiment that could have benefited as a straight romantic comedy with more time devoted to Milligan’s Dennis, charming and breezy on limited screen time. The book had bite and an oddly hopeful quality that the movie just doesn’t have.
If only The people we hate at the wedding You will “live” like the main product placement financier.
