What do music lovers find at the Sziget music festival? About the festival?
Sziget Festival is an environment where entertainment continues 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with over 60 stages and over 1,000 performances. The festival is established on an area of 1 million 100 thousand square meters on the island of Obudai, located in the heart of Budapest. This area is 185 times the size of a football field. Maybe saying this will help you visualize it better. Sziget Main Stage, which can accommodate approximately 100,000 people.
The Sziget Festival, which has been held uninterruptedly since 1993, is much more than just the events where famous bands and artists from certain music movements take the stage.
Sziget Festival, with over 60 stages and thousands of performances, is also known for its diverse and entertaining events that continue all day. In addition to culture, arts and sports, from shopping stands with nearly 100 clothes, vintage, accessories, shoes, hats, etc. And of course, most importantly, it is known as one of the biggest cultural festivals in Europe for 5 days, where the diversity of entertainment is at the forefront.
A festival has its essentials. What are the features that make Sziget so special?
A wide variety of entertainment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With nearly 60 stages and approximately 250 daily programs, it is impossible not to find the music and entertainment you love. When the Main Stage performance is completed at Sziget, the entire festival area turns into a dance floor. In addition to the music stages, large and small bars and stages turn into a dance area. There is even a stage where a constant crowd dances 24 hours a day.
In addition, there is no designated camping area for campers, you can set up your tent in the areas where the stages are or in the middle of nature. The VIP Campground, which will be established for the third time this year, will include a pool, internet, market, bar, private toilets and showers. If you are not a camper, it is possible to find many hotels and hostels close to the festival.
In my opinion, the Sziget Festival is a unique life experience where 400 thousand people, who love so many styles of music and young people from different countries, have fun without hesitation.
The fact that the festival area is on an island above the Danube river in the heart of Budapest makes Sziget very special, as the festival venue creates a special atmosphere with its unique blend of party, city and nature.
There is a huge list of artists, which artists are participating?
The festival features music from many genres such as reggae, brit pop, alternative rock, world, metal. Isn’t it a disadvantage to have them all together?
The number of participants in the Sziget Festival is not exactly related to the lineup and music beyond the conventional approach. Festival lovers have been coming to Sziget’s ambiance since 1993, regardless of strong or weak lineup. Every year, approximately 400,000 people come to the festival to spend their 1-week vacation with their friends, not only to listen to the music they love, but also because of the variety of entertainment offered by the Sziget Festival.
At the same time, the fact that each musical style has different stages, brings diversity to the fore on the festival island while uniting these music lovers.
For example, while Placebo was playing on the Main Stage in 2009, 1,200 people were dancing on the Meduza Stage with Dynamo 103.8 DJs Fuchs and Cervus. I remember one night when we had a headliner on the main stage and we had a belly at Roma Tent J
How is Sziget’s participant profile?
More than 60% of the festival is composed of festival lovers from abroad. Sziget attaches great importance to having an international identity and has developed its local representation system in order to achieve this. They have representations in more than 40 countries in the world, including Turkey, and they display the flags of these countries in the large entrance area behind the main stage. We are happy to have the Turkish flag in this area and on the website.
Although the average age of the participants of the Sziget Festival is 18-35, the presence of stages such as Blues, Jazz and World Stage causes music lovers of all ages to show interest. When this is the case, it is possible to encounter even families walking around the festival area holding the hands of their children, we can even say that it is a new trend.
What other activities are there besides music?
First of all, on the road that goes around the island, there is an Open Bazaar with nearly 100 tents selling vintage shops, shoemakers, accessories, and fun and different products. Apart from that, the theater stage played in various languages, dance arena, circus and amusement park, pool, marriage tent, poker tournament tent, strip club, exhibitions, tarot house, dance lessons, book reading sessions, far east martial arts, extreme games, movie screenings , panels, juggling area, basketball, football and a facility that hosts many sports and countless activities are available. There is also a huge open-air theater area where you can watch huge shows. In 2009, we had the chance to watch La Fura Dels Baus, which took place at the opening of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and was performed by approximately 50 people 60m above the ground. It was truly fascinating.
The dining areas are filled with hundreds of options where we can see examples of world cuisine. So much so that I can say that I ate the best chilli I’ve ever eaten at Sziget.
Those who go to the festival will also have the opportunity to see Budapest, does Sziget have a touristic attraction?
The island of Obudai, where the Sziget Festival is located, is very close to the city center. That’s why, while preparing our travel packages, we take care to ensure that the hotel we choose is at a mid-point, both close to the festival and in order to experience the life of Budapest. In this way, it is very easy to spend time in the city until the evening hours and to reach the island thanks to the Metro station at the entrance of the Festival. We even had friends who gave up the festival one day and wandered around Vienna.
Thanks to the CityPass card application, which will be implemented for the first time this year, Sziget Festival followers will be able to benefit not only from public transportation vehicles, but also to inner city beaches and the famous Budapest spa and baths.
Finally, we recommend everyone to go and have fun at the Sziget Festival!
