We discuss the ending of the Apple TV+ Spirited movie that will contain spoilers.
Lusty is a musical comedy that retells the classic a Christmas carol championship Will Ferrell And the Ryan Reynolds. In this holiday story game, three ghosts led by Ferrell’s character are tasked with redeeming the irredeemable Clint (Reynolds), a man who made a fortune creating social media scandals. As the film progresses, a strong bond develops between Clint and the Christmas Gift ghost as the two men learn more about the other.
During the chase, Clint is less than helpful throughout the night. He continued to interrupt Marley’s cryptic song, engaging in unseemly acts with the past and even convincing the present to reveal his deepest secrets. As it turned out, the present was actually the ghost of Ebenezer Scrooge, the only other “irredeemable” person the Ghost Team had ever encountered. With Scrooge dying within weeks of the fateful Christmas Eve conveyed in Dickens’ novel, the present has spent centuries worrying about reverting to the kind of fool capable of saying “Good evening!” However, Clint convinces the ghost to finally retire, return to Earth, and pursue Kimberly.
While the present is enjoying a date with his love interest, Clint receives a visit from the last ghost: after he comes. Bonnie’s ghost shows Clint a dark version of the future. In it, after his niece takes his advice and releases a violent video about her rival for class president, the boy couldn’t handle all the hate on social media and committed suicide. Determined to prevent this from happening, Clint runs to the skating rink where his brother and niece are going to try to stop her from posting the video. Thankfully, Kimberly gets there first and the video never sees the light of day. However, to the dismay of the present, time does not stop nor start any musical number, meaning Clint is not being replaced.
Lusty Explanation of the end
Distraught over his failure to make up for Clint’s unrecoverable make up, the present decides to hop in front of the bus. But Clint saves his new “bro” at the last minute by shoving him out of the way. As the bus is about to turn on Clint, time stops and a pep rally arrives to congratulate him on finally recovering. Unfortunately, just as the musical number is over, Clint is hit by a bus and dies. Rather than go into the light with his sister, Clint asks for a job at Spirited.
In the final scenes, we learn that Clint is now the ghost of Christmas present, and he’s even expanding the operation. He spends his afterlife in a long term relationship with the past and still visits his old friend in the present. Will Farrell’s character has since married Kimberly and they have two beautiful children. The film ends with Clint and Present re-making the song That Christmas morning feeling.
