We’re going over the Netflix K-Drama series Somebody Season 1, which will contain major spoilers, so be warned!
when I watched tractor for the K-Drama series Somebody, I was locked up. The glimpse into the story was full of potential, full of mystery, and gave hope for a session worthy of celebration. And then, k-drama intertwines with Kim Young Kwang And the Kang Hye Lim as superstars, which gives a guaranteed feeling that this is going to be something special. However, once you get to the halfway line, it becomes quite apparent Somebody It became a unique pet project for the director Jung Ji Woowhich chose eroticism and crime-driven mystery over storytelling.
Story of the Somebody Follows a very talented developer Kim Som. She has spent years building the Chat AI Bot. After soon impressing an ambitious CEO, her technology becomes a top-rated dating app, initially called “Somebody”, but becomes the honorary “Someone”. The story moves forward quickly, bringing in elements of Kim Som’s lifestyle and self-proclaimed element Asperger’s syndrome, to a time when Somebody was a mainstream dating app. The only problem is that the serial killer is using the app to his advantage to find his next target.
With the premise set, the devious and mysterious Kim Sum has to embrace the world of romance and murder. K-dramas are set to be wonders, with sick tones and a sinister setting.
But, unfortunately, K-dramas focus on the idea for far too long. Rather than embed himself in a sick world where a serial killer cleverly unleashes his methods on unknown victims, he instead chooses style over substance. There is absolutely no doubt that Jung Ji-woo has an eye for filmmaking; He created some Great moviesafter all, but maybe an 8-episode adventure was too much for him to see.
Pushing itself forward with erotic subplots and sexually charged scenes, Somebody He gets to the corner by the time you get to the penultimate chapter. It becomes a series of random chaos rather than a story with a final message. He simply fancies himself too much.
what Somebody It highlights the loneliness of the modern world through the lens of Kim Sum, wonderfully played by Kang Hye Lim. The irony is that the character developed the most popular dating app in the world but is confused not to know who she really is. It craves love and intimacy, intertwined with an individual sense of purpose. Her backstory can be applauded as we get to see what she really stands for in a slow unfolding way. This character was nailed, and the series should have hone in on her more. Kim Som’s character is a real positive to the story.
And even with a stale and often tense storyline, there’s no denying that the performances throughout are top-notch from start to finish. Somebody is a missed opportunity in the world of K-dramas, especially with the potential to be released globally on Netflix.
