Presenters of the national news series honor their former director, Mark Traub, today, Wednesday, after he died of leukemia the day before at the age of 35, after battling leukemia for a year and a half, during which point he retired in 2019.

The account of the “Today” show posted on Twitter, bidding farewell to the former director, in which they mourn their colleague who died today at the age of 35.

Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie, Dylan Dreyer, Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones have all paid tribute to their former director who died in infancy. we actually have some news. ‘So sad this morning for our friend Mark Traub.’

He continued, “He was part of our family today and he was our stage manager. He’s worked here for almost four decades, the heart and soul of our show.” “He passed away yesterday at the age of 35. He was suffering from difficult complications after an 18-month battle with leukaemia.”

A hero bids us farewell today with sorrow

A behind-the-scenes look at Traub’s work, Guthrie added, detailing his early days at NBC as a page working on a variety of shows, including soap  operas and Saturday Night Live.

“He was a world traveler, an avid reader. He knew everything about just about everything. He was a movie buff, lifelong Yankees and Giants fan. Very funny,” Guthrie said.
He then continued, “He was so generous with his laugh and he was so generous with all of us. And I have to say this morning our hearts are broken and a lot of our crew, I know, are also heartbroken. .because he meant so much to us.” “He was dedicated to all of us in such a meaningful way. And we needed him. We needed him.”

Upon his retirement in 2019, Traub opened up about how important the life is, specially his work on his show.

“It’s the only place I’ve known to be home for two-thirds of my life,” he said during an episode that aired in 2019. “My life’s dream came true when I was 21. Part of something as vital to this country as this show is.”

Traub died young, much a grief for many. But maybe instead being sad for him, is to understand life as Traub lived it, a life full of entertainment and fun. He is now in eternal silence. We hope for him to rest in peace.
