Macy login credit card and review

Macy has been around for more than 150 years as a mainstay in the upper echelons of the American department store community. The name “Macy” just conjures up visions of flashy ads for clothing and housewares, and memories of Thanksgivings spent watching huge floats parade through the streets of New York City.

While department stores around the world have taken a hit with the growth of online shopping. Macy clearly has plans for survival.

Like many other stores, these plans include recognizing customer loyalty via sales—and most importantly, for the sake of this article, a rewards program tightly tied to a Macy credit card.

So, are Macy credit cards worth it? You are about to find out.

In this article, we review the Macy Primary credit card, the Macy American Express® card, the Macy Star Rewards program (including how to link your card benefits to your program status), fees and drawbacks, online account management, and more.

Macy Credit Cards

The Macy Credit Card is a Citibank-branded primary card that can only be used for purchases at Macy, online at macys.com, and at Macy Backstage.

When you open a Macy credit card, you are automatically enrolled in their “Star Rewards” program at Silver level status. This is the most basic level where every Macy Card holder begins.

The benefits received by the cardholder are directly related to the cardholder’s status level; We’ll talk more about that below.

Macy also has an American Express version of their credit card issued by Citibank as well. As you can see in the table above, cardholders can use this card anywhere Amex is accepted (versus only at Macy stores), and it comes with a lot of extra benefits.

So why isn’t everyone getting an Amex card?

It’s not that easy.

Potential applicants don’t get to choose which card they apply for – you only need to submit one application. You will be considered first for the American Express version (which usually requires a very excellent credit score), and if you don’t qualify, a standard Macy credit card will be considered.

Some of the core benefits earned with your Macy Amex Card are also directly related to your Star Rewards status. And, like the primary Macy Card, those who qualify for the Macy American Express® Card are automatically enrolled in the rewards program in Silver status (again, more on status progression, benefit differences, etc. below).

Where the Macy American Express® Card differs is the ability to use it anywhere American Express is accepted, and additional rewards benefits earned outside Macy stores.

As noted in the table (and photo) above, Macy Amex cardholders have the ability to earn 3% rewards at restaurants, 2% at gas stations and supermarkets, and 1% anywhere else outside of Macy.

Remember, restrictions always apply. what type? For example, in terms of rewards for gas purchases: “Department stores, department stores, convenience stores, and warehouse clubs that sell gasoline are not considered gas stations.”

So be sure to read your terms and conditions carefully. This way, you won’t be disappointed when you don’t get the rewards you thought you owed!

Macy credit card rewards

Both Macy credit cards divide consumers into three categories – Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Tiers are determined by the amount of money you spend at Macy annually.

The following are the annual spending requirements for each category:

  • Silver:  $1 to $499
  • Gold:  from $500 to $1,199
  • Platinum:  $1,200 or more

Whether you’re a Silver, Gold, or Platinum cardholder, every Macy Card offers premium “Star Money” reward points that can be used to purchase just about anything in the Macy Store (gift cards excluded).

Here’s the bonus breakdown for Macy purchases:
  • Silver:  2%
  • Gold:  3%
  • Platinum:  5%

Along with these rewards, the Macy American Express Card increases the reward potential for consumers at all three loyalty levels with the following reward rates:

  • Restaurants:  3%
  • Gas stations:  2%
  • Supermarket:  1%

These rewards come in the form of Star Money, where 1 point equals 1 penny. Once you reach 1,000 points, Macy sends you $10 in Star Money that you can spend on anything from Macy, macys.com, or a Macy Backstage store, with exceptions for gift cards, services, and fees. You have 30 days to use your Star Money, or it will expire. Macy login credit card and review

How is your Macy loyalty status determined

You may be wondering if you qualify for Silver, Gold, or Platinum loyalty status. Every new credit card account starts with Silver status by default. After that, you are reassessed each calendar year to determine your status for the following year. If your spending increases fast enough, your status can be upgraded within seven days.Macy login credit card and review

For example, once you spend at least $500 on purchases at any Macy brick-and-mortar store. However, (Macy and Macy’s Backstage) or online at Macy.com, your status will be upgraded to Gold for the remainder of the current calendar year and for the year The next full calendar as well.

Macy American Express credit card vs Macy store card

Comparing a Macy store card to a Macy American Express credit card can be overwhelming, since the cards are so similar. However, The most important detail to remember is that the Macy American Express credit card offers the same rewards as the Macy Store card, but also offers the added ability to spend and redeem points at the gas pump, at grocery stores, restaurants, and elsewhere.

minimum

If you’re someone who shops at Macy at least once a month, or even once every three months, the Macy Store Card comes with some serious cash-keeping benefits in your wallet. However, since Star Money expires within 30 days after it’s earned, this isn’t the kind of card meant for people who’d rather save their rewards for something big.

While the Macy credit card offers a great savings opportunity, the Macy American Express credit card is a more profitable option for consumers who want all the benefits of a store credit card, plus 3% back at restaurants, 2% back at gas stations and groceries and 1% back at All other expenses.

If you’re not sure if you’ll shop at Macy enough to make the store credit card worth it, Select recommends finding a cash-back card that lets you apply your points to spending of every kind and make the most of your rewards.

Alternatively, if you’re an avid Amazon shopper, Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature cardholders earn 5% cash back on Amazon.com purchases and may be a better all-in-one card for your shopping needs.

Comments and reviews

Overall rating of the card: 2.2

Some comments on it:

Most helpful positive comments

“I’ve had this carf for 1 year and 7 months, never had a single problem, I started with a $300 credit and now I’m on $10,000. You have to log into macys.com to access your credit card account. I see a lot of stickers That says the credit card site is difficult to navigate. I never had a problem.

And I got a lot of coupons and Macys Cash was great .When I applied for the card they needed to speak to me to verify my identity. Then the account opened and I use it and pay in A good time sometimes, I take a balance sometimes.”

Most negative comments are helpful

Worst credit I ever had, I made a payment and got a message in the app saying. “Thank you for making the payment” and then my payment was returned and they didn’t notify me and I didn’t check my app because I had no store, no credit, and they reported credit, And I lost 80 points for only $34. This really affects my life.”

“We were approved for $300 after applying online yesterday with a credit score of 722. We were contacted today to see if that was accurate and maybe try to get a higher credit limit and it wasn’t approved. A bit frustrating I pay in full for every statement on my other cards, so I guess I’ll have to wait up to 6 months to try again. Macy login credit card and review

I thought I got my American Express Macy card approved yesterday, but the representative told me it wasn’t. So this is even more disappointing. I feel as though I’ve been Wasted the third hard raffle. Also, the 20% discount will not be applied to my purchase until the end of the first billing cycle. It would have been better to apply at the time of purchase. Well, let’s see how this ride goes. Hope I get a great one.”

“I’ve had a Macy card for over a decade now. I’ve never had more than the $1,200 max (even though I have double that at Boscov’s and $7,000 at JCPenney). But a year or so ago, they were unexpectedly And without notice they lowered my limit to $800. Now, again without warning, they have lowered it to $600. My credit score hasn’t changed, my financial situation hasn’t changed, my card usage rate hasn’t changed. They seem to randomly pick cards and lower Limit them without notice.

I wouldn’t even have known if I hadn’t logged into Credit Karma and noticed my limit had gone down. The last time that happened I asked for a raise again and was told it was too soon after it went down .I’m not going to close the account because I don’t I want to lose more credit or the number of accounts, but I definitely won’t shop there anymore.

Watch out

“I purchased a piece of furniture with no interest for a one-year agreement. On the third statement, interest charges started coming in. I called to correct the charges and managed to get a credit. You have to watch your back with this card… Most people probably just pay the bill and Citibank takes the profits.” “.

Terrible customer service

“You won’t believe how unprofessional the customer service is. I asked the supervisor and he hung up! Every call for easy work takes at least 15 minutes.”
