A proud native of Cape Breton, Leanne went by many names, including Lee, Leebee, and Ms. Flynn, reflecting the diverse roles she played in the lives of those around her. As a devoted elder sister to her five siblings and a dedicated teacher, writer, and gardener, she embodied a myriad of roles within her community. It would be unjust to say that Leanne succumbed to her battle with cancer; she fought valiantly throughout her journey. Despite the quiet moments of struggle, her unwavering strength and spirit never wavered.

Leanne possessed a rare gift for the written word, fueled by her love for English literature and her innate creativity. Born on December 5, 1970, in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, she cherished her roots and held dear the memories of summers spent in Chimney Corner. After completing her Bachelor of Arts at Cape Breton University, Leanne pursued a Bachelor of Education at Western University, ultimately forging a profound and impactful career teaching high school English in Ontario. Later in life, she embraced writing and editing as her full-time vocation.

Her love for gardening was a testament to her deep connection with nature, dedicating a substantial portion of her time to create an outdoor haven in her personal garden. Leanne’s passion for flowers and gardening radiated wherever she went. With an unmistakable sense of style, she fearlessly expressed her true self and encouraged others to do the same. Leanne was a generous soul, leaving those she interacted with feeling more self-assured and cared for. Regardless of the obstacles she faced, Leanne consistently made time for others, offering her undivided attention. Her caring nature, coupled with her knack for humor, left a lasting impression.

Leanne’s love extended profoundly to her family, friends, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is survived by her parents, Melin and Aileen Flynn, and her siblings Timmy (Amanda), Ryan, Maureen, Colleen (Gary), and Blaire (Steve). She held a special place in her heart for her dear friend, John Bury. On June 28th, 2023, she peacefully passed away, surrounded by her family. Leanne’s family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses of the palliative care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Her light may have dimmed, but her memory continues to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
