WEX Health Payment card
The WEX Health Payment card is a special-purpose Visa® or MasterCard that enables participants to pay for eligible health care/benefit expenses electronically. It provides a convenient way to access pre-tax amounts set aside in employee benefit accounts like Health Savings Accounts (HSA), Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), and Health Reimbursement Accounts (HRA).

How it Works
The value of the participant’s account contribution is stored on the benefits debit card. Participants can use the card to pay for eligible expenses at a business that accepts benefit debit cards. The purchase amount will be automatically deducted from the participant’s account, and the pre-tax dollars will be electronically transferred to the provider/merchant for payment.
Is it Similar to Other Visa/MasterCard Cards?
No. The WEX Health Payment card is a special-purpose card that can only be used for eligible health care/benefit expenses. It cannot be used for non-eligible purchases like gas or restaurants, and there are no monthly bills or interest.
Number of Cards Issued:
Each participant will receive two cards. Additional cards for family members can be requested by contacting the Plan Administrator.
Annual Renewal:
Participants must re-enroll each year to use the card, but they will not receive a new card each year. If the participant will have a benefit associated with the card for the following plan year, they can continue using the same card.
Lost or Stolen Cards:
Participants should immediately report lost or stolen cards to the Plan Administrator. There is a fee for replacement cards.
Activating the Card:
Participants can activate their cards by calling the toll-free number on the activation sticker. They should wait one business day after activation to use their cards, and each card user must sign the card with their own name.
Saving Receipts:
Participants and eligible users must save itemized receipts for HSA, FSA, and HRA purchases made with the WEX Health Payment card. Receipts must show the merchant/provider name, service received/item purchased, date, and amount of purchase. The IRS requires receipts to validate expense eligibility if the automated processing cannot substantiate a transaction.
