About the Book
It Ends With Us was the book of TikTok of last year, with over 2 billion views associated with the book’s hashtag and plenty of celeb fans including Kylie Jenner. The novel was released in 2016 and has since sold over one million copies, thanks in part to its popularity on TikTok. The story is inspired by the relationship between Hoover’s own mother and father, and she’s previously described it as “the hardest book I’ve ever written”.
Plot
The novel is centered around Lily, a college graduate who moves to Boston in the hope of opening up her own flower shop. There, she falls in love with neurosurgeon Ryle, whilst also grappling with the memories of her past love Atlas, and coming to terms with the abuse in her parent’s relationship. But when Atlas suddenly reappears, Lily’s entire life with Ryle is threatened.

Great news It Ends With Us fans, Blake Lively has been cast as Lily! Colleen Hoover announced the news herself on her Instagram last night (26th January) saying: “Our Lily is going to be played by Blake Lively. Blake Lively, y’all. She’s my dream Lily.” Colleen also announced Ryle will be played by Jane The Virgin’s Justin Baldoni, who will also be directing and producing the film through his production company Wayfarer Entertainment company.

Right now It Ends With Us is still in the early stages of production so we don’t have a release date just yet. The film has been in the works since 2019, after Justin Baldoni optioned the novel for an adaptation through his production company.

It Ends With Us is a book-to-movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s New York Times Best Seller, which was published in 2016. However, it wasn’t until six years later that the book gained popularity through TikTok, with celebrities like Kendall and Kylie Jenner promoting the novel on their social media. The movie adaptation is officially in the works, starring Blake Lively as Lily Bloom and Justin Baldoni as Ryle Kincaid. Baldoni is also the director of the film.
The story follows Lily, a young woman who moves to Boston and dreams of opening her own flower shop. She meets Ryle, a neurosurgeon, who sweeps her off her feet, but their relationship begins to crumble. She unexpectedly reconnects with her first love, Atlas Corrigan. The book addresses heavy themes such as sexual abuse and toxic masculinity. Fans of the novel are excited to see their favorite characters on the big screen.
On January 26, Deadline officially announced that Lively and Baldoni will play the lead roles of Lily and Ryle. No other cast members have been revealed as of yet. Lively gave fans a sneak peek by posting an Instagram story of herself with dark red hair, teasing her role as Lily.
It is unclear at this time if the plot of the movie will deviate from the original storyline, but some fans have called for the film to dial back the abuse storylines as other film adaptations have done in the past. There is currently no official release date for the movie, but fans are eagerly waiting for an announcement from Sony Pictures.
