Of all the things that return in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, of all the legendary weapons and iconic outfits, there may be none that provide as much joy and utility as paragliding. While it wasn’t the first entry to feature it, Breath of the Wild made it more relevant than ever, allowing Link to traverse large parts of the map in seconds. Given how important the previous game was, there was little doubt that the Breath of the Wild sequel would once again feature a glider so prominently.

Like Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom doesn’t provide a link up with the paratrooper right outside the portal. After a long opening section, which takes place on many of the New Sky Islands, Link will descend to the surface. Soon enough, Link will receive a glider from a familiar face, providing him with one of the most reliable means of transportation in the game.

Purah Link gives the Paraglider during Crisis in the main Hyrule Castle quest. To start this mission, you will need to finish the tutorial on Great Sky Island and land on Hyrule. Once you reach Lookout Landing in Hyrule Field, you will be directed to speak with Purah. Talk to her and follow the given objectives until you speak to Hoz at Hyrule Castle and return to Lookout Landing. Purah will ask you to meet her at the nearby Skyview Tower. As soon as you talk to her there, she will give you a parachute.

With Paraglider, you can glide safely across the skies of Hyrule. An important tool in Breath of the Wild, the addition of Kingdom’s Tears to the Sky Islands makes the Paraglider a must-see for exploration. Sliding slowly uses your stamina, so be careful not to send Link plummeting back to the ground.

This is how you get a Paraglider in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. While you are free to ignore the main quests and explore Hyrule at your leisure, we recommend that you obtain Paraglider as soon as possible, as it is convenient for travel and exploration. Meet Purah at Lookout Landing

As should be evident by this point, Link must complete the entire opening section and descend to the surface of Hyrule to begin the process of obtaining the parachute. Fortunately for Link, he won’t have to wait long after reaching the surface before he can be obtained.

The first steps to getting a glider require Link to get to Lookout Landing and start the first main mission on the rooftop, “To the Kingdom of Hyrule”. This will lead Link to Purah, the former head of the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. She now leads a small settlement whose sole goal is the successful rescue of Princess Zelda.

Once Link has successfully interacted with Purah and completed the first steps in “Crisis at Hyrule Castle”, Purah will present Link to the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower and process through which he will unlock sections of the Kingdom’s Tears map. During this conversation, you will simply turn over the glider.

Simply put, Link only needs to follow the natural progression of Purah’s missions to unlock the paratrooper, giving him easy access to a slew of previously inaccessible areas.

How to use the parachute in Kingdom’s Tears

In  Tears of the Kingdom,  the paratrooper functions in the same way as in  Breath of the Wild. When Link jumps from a high place, he will be prompted to press X, which will allow him to slide until his stamina meter runs out. This simple mechanic opens up a wide range of traversal opportunities. Consider the following uses for a parachute:

  • Players have probably noticed that the sky islands are multi-tiered, with large gaps between parts of the land. Even though the glider doesn’t have any form of propulsion, it still makes it easy for Link to travel between islands. Just find an elevated area and keep an eye on the stamina gauge when crossing.
  • Link can take stamina-increasing meals in the air to increase range.
  • When jumping from the Sky Islands to Hyrule, Link no longer needs to aim for water. Simply engage the parachutist close to the ground to avoid dangerous impact.
  • Look for falling debris coming from the many islands above Hyrule. The linker can use the retrieval ability on a viable object to head high into the air, and then use the parachutist to traverse vast distances.
  • Look for wind gusts in any direction. These powerful blasts of air will allow Link to move faster and in a variety of directions. Some mountain areas will have wind vents to help the link get to higher areas.

This is just a small amount of what is possible in Kingdom Tears. Link’s ability to experiment with his inventory of gadgets and weapons is one of the game’s greatest joys.

How to change parachute fabric in Kingdom’s Tears

One of the major changes that Tears of the Kingdom  brings to the canopy, however, is the ability to change the sail of fabric that allows it to function. While the link cannot change it immediately upon receiving the paraglider, the wait to do so is not long.

Once Link makes his way to Hateno Village, he will be able to access the Kochi Dye Shop. Talking to Sayge will reveal the full list of options for the shop, which includes the ability to add and remove dye from Link’s armor, as well as change the texture of the parachute.
