Before getting into things, let’s briefly look at the season as a whole.
The story begins with Sophie slowly starting to build relationships with the gang and during the early episodes of this season, we often see them in separate places before they finally get together. In later episodes, we see the gang starting off together before pairing off to go on their separate adventures and reconvening before the episode ends. With the end of the season, we start with the gang in separate places.
Sid and Hannah are in Pemberton thinking about wedding plans and the challenges of their relationship, Jesse and Sophie wake up together, Elaine (Tien Tran) and Charlie briefly discuss Charlie’s unwillingness to have children despite Valentina expressing the night before her desire to start a family with him. Very quickly, we begin to see cracks, things fall apart at the seam. This was predicted in the final moments of the final episode where Charlie and Valentina embrace and the camera turns on Charlie’s grimace for a few seconds, foreshadowing the upcoming conflict at the end of the season. Without delving into the structure of the episode, let’s briefly talk about the circularity of the series ‘ storytelling.

A generalization is something that, when it is done, it is either done well or terribly. In this case, the book pulls it out. By the end of the episode, if we’re focusing exclusively on Sophie, we’re back to where we started with her being single and ready to maybe pursue a romantic relationship with Ian. However, since this story is about more than just Sophie, things are completely different. In fact, the whole gang dynamic changed with the breakup of Valentina and Charlie, Hannah and Sid got married, and Jesse returned with Meredith. What this bodes for the future, I have no idea, but with the return of Captain Kyle MacLachlan and” aunt Robin, ” I’m very excited to see what the book has in store for us. Now, before I get ahead of myself, let’s take a deeper look at what happened this week with the finale.

It just came to Canada a couple of moths ago via Star. What did fellow watchers think of Robin appearing in it? I knew from the description Sophie would meet one of the original gang, but for some reason I figured it would be Ted. love how Jesse and Sophie had a similar first date situation to Ted and Robin. At this point in the timeline, Ted is married to Tracy. It seems like Robin is sort of pining for him. I wonder if Tracy is sick yet (she dies in 2024). I wonder if we will see any more of the original gang.
The Captain and Becky seemed needlessly shoehorned in. I hate when people use the term “unnecessary” as a criticism of TV, since none of it is strictly necessary, but the word kind of fits here. It was pointless fan service and it isn’t explained how Sophie even knows about these people.
