Pointers For Picking Your Own Goodwood Racing Tips
Trainer And Jockey Statistics
The top jockey at Goodwood in terms of winners is Jim Crowley, with Goodwood’s leading trainer being Mark Johnston. All the in-depth statistics can be found above.
Course Characteristics
One of the most unique tracks in the UK, as can be seen from the course map above. Known for its testing undulations and sharp turns, the final three furlongs or so are all downhill, leading to quickly run races. The distances used for the most famous races have their own names:
- Six furlongs – “Stewards’ Cup Course”
- One mile 2 furlongs – “Craven Course”
- One mile four furlongs – “Gratwicke Course”
- One mile six furlongs – “Bentinck Course”
- Two miles five furlongs – “Cup Course
Because of the unique nature of the course, our Goodwood tips often favour horses. Who either have previous experience at this track, or nimble types who have suggested that they can cope with the nature of it. Other than favouring a course specialist, there is no strong draw bias at the Sussex venue for our Goodwood racing tips to follow.
Draw Bias
On the five-furlong course, there is a small bias for runners coming from the lower stalls. With the same advantage for those drawn low over six furlongs.
Feature Races
The “Glorious Festival”, best known as “Glorious Goodwood”, features a large number of Group races. At the end of July & start of August. Run from Tuesday to Saturday, the Group 1 highlights are the Sussex Stakes on Wednesday over a mile. The Goodwood Cup over two miles on the Thursday and the Nassau Stakes over just shy of one mile. Two furlongs on the Saturday. The Stewards’ Cup, a Heritage disability, is also a highlight of the meeting, with a large field tackling just six furlongs in a busy sprint to the line.
