to employ an old cliché, the first love Not about the flight, but the destination. And it definitely took a good time getting there. I think we can all agree that the nine hour episodes was just too much for this story; That there just wasn’t enough to fill it in, even across multiple time periods and perspectives. Hatsukoi, the epilogue, still uses the double timeline gimmick, but more importantly, she reinvents herself and finds a middle ground that proves that, at times, fate will find its way in the end.

First Love Season 1 Episode 9 Recap

The ending begins in Hokkaido, 1997, with young Yae upset and then giving a mock exam at Kitami while discovering herself in the present time a time capsule. But the nice flourish is how we go back to that exam and take it from a different perspective via that time capsule; It’s a great way to unite all the tricks and themes of the narrative into something cohesive and moving.

That time capsule contains, among other things, the “Bound for Kitami” ticket stub, a poster for Titanic, and old photos, some of Yae and Harumichi. It also contains an empty Marlboro box filled message. We’ll come back to this.

After a bit of a romantic moment between Tsuzuru and Uta, Yae takes all of her paid days off at once, and everyone in the office rallies around her to ensure they don’t get punished for doing so. They’re all ready to fly out to pastures new, but they’re overwhelmed by an unexpected arrival: Covid-19.

Covid cost us a lot of normal life, and it costs yay three years. the first love He uses realistic news footage of world leaders explaining the gravity of the pandemic to do a lot of heavy lifting, along with bullet shots of empty calendars and desks. It’s a little weird to see that, to be honest, especially after that the first love He’s been in a lot of different time periods.

But, nonetheless, time flies, and behold, she finally boards her flight to Reykjavík. On it, I read the letter from Harumichi. He tells of their first meeting, his most valuable treasure. Before her, he was always in trouble at school, albeit for defending his sister from those who made fun of her hearing. When he first saw Yae, he was on a train – to Kitami. When she falls asleep, he puts the ticket stub “Bound to Kitami” in her book, so she doesn’t lose her spot. He sees her again in the examination hall, completing the episode. It’s fate! And when he gets into the same school, it’s a miracle.

The the first love The ending is the show’s chickens returning home to roost, told through the narrative. Time and distance suddenly became meaningless. The idea is that if you love someone enough, you will find your way to them, or they will find their way to you. Yae and Harumichi finally reunite in Iceland, and the final shot of the series is of an air hostess and a pilot as if nothing got in the way of their dreams in the first place.
