Things are thrown for more loop with arrival Didak‘Brothers paw, who exists to expand the family business. We don’t get much clarity on what the work is, but the implication is that it’s a bit unpleasant. Didak, who clearly looks up to Isadora but doesn’t want to pressure her into anything given the latter’s circumstances, proposes a memorial to Cruz at the Isadora Theater to help Evan recover and hopefully get him back to school.
Nico Struggling too. After taking a girl home and trying to sleep with her using a sex toy, he decides he wants gender confirmation surgery, but his father—who we learn has done all the previous surgeries himself—refuses to perform it again. This leads Niko to sell Hugo and Alex hormones which he steals from his father’s office in hopes of paying for the phalloplasty himself.
Meanwhile, Bao convinces Didak to give Javi a chance to atone for their long relationship, but it hinges on Javi doing something to try and fix the mess he’s made. This includes Isadora leaving a voicemail explaining that Evan had nothing to do with her sexual assault. This makes her feel very guilty for abandoning her best friend in her time of need. I’m finally able to talk to him, apologize, and help him move on toward recovery, mostly by coaxing him into attending Cruz’s memorial, which ultimately turns out to be a bad idea, but we’ll get there momentarily.
Meanwhile, Raoul does everything he can to get back into Sarah’s life, blinding her at school and publicly apologizing for her on social media.
The breakdown of Evan and Patrick’s relationship also continues apace, and it all comes to a head at Cruz’s memorial. There, we also get a further twist in Bilal and Rocio’s tentative romance — and why he rejects it, mostly because she believes their African heritage unites them when he thinks they have no shared experience whatsoever — that begins to take on more form when she later enters into a racist man who alludes to She is a whore. I’m still not completely in control of this relationship, but at least it has an interesting dynamic.
Of more immediate concern, as mentioned, are Evan and Patrick. Ari is on a similar downward spiral as Evan due to her inability to grieve Samuel, especially after Patrick gives her the address to his grave site. This leads the two together in a bathroom stall for an intimate moment that Patrick discovers in the aftermath. This does not bode well for their relationship, and after a frank conversation, things only get worse – Evan, rightly or wrongly, blames Patrick for his father’s death.
At the end of the episode, we’re reminded that Evan’s life hangs in the balance this season. If he dies, who will be responsible for that death?
