We review the Disney + Disenchanted movie, which contains no spoilers.

It’s been 15 years since Disney’s surprise success. fascinated It has become a modern classic for today’s 20-something crowd. Set nearly a decade after the timeline of fascinatedwe now find Giselle (Amy Adams), Robert (Patrick DempseyIn a role where the only requirement is to throw dimples), Morgan (Gabriela Baldachino), and a new baby girl, Sofia, move to the magical suburbs of Monroeville. Beautiful green lawn, front yards manicured to perfection, and the schools look like modern day mansions. So, you can smell the tax in the air. They even rebuild a house into a magical castle. This new wonderland isn’t exactly Andalusia (or New York City, for that matter), but the family home is where the heart is, right?

Well, maybe not. Everyone has a hard time adjusting to their new life. Giselle does not receive a warm welcome from the local PTA mothers and is led by Malvina (Maya Rudolph) in Monroeville. Poor Disney Princess can’t sell baked goods at school without permission. Then you have Robert’s feeling of dissatisfaction. why? edward (dead l I James Marsden) offers his sword to go on a mission so he can “really” do something or be someone. Life as a corporate lawyer is not the valiant noble life he dreamed of in law school. Then you have Morgan. Now riddled with teenage angst, she’s upset, mostly because she left all her friends and feels like an outsider.

Directed by Adam Shankman (What do men want) and written by Bridget Hales (Hulu’s 11.22.63), resentment 30 minutes too long. The main problem is that the movie starts off at a brisk pace, with settings from classic family comedies without falling into any of its disgusting humor, which is a plus. The design makes you feel like the cool first push, which may have been a joke, was just one note away. And you have to remember how different things are today. We live in a very different time than it was in 2007 and see things differently. A time filled with social justice initiatives, political corruption, and living through the worst pandemic in nearly a century.

However, after about 35 minutes, the premise begins to take shape. The story begins to develop when Giselle Don’t move from Disney Princess in the city to the suburbs. Giselle wants to make Monroeville the most magical place, like Andalusia, to show Morgan How glamorous suburban life can be. Of course, Hales’ script does something brilliant by showing the unintended consequences of big changes. This causes Giselle to become an evil stepmother, something most fairy tales fear. Adams’ performance is a joy to watch from this point on, showing a knack for switching between good and evil with lightning speed and funny.

There are some delightful nods to other classic Disney fare. You have clear and welcome signals from Cruella to me mischievous. songs from Beauty and peasR. When the town becomes a fairy tale, Morgan is introduced as a Cinderella-like character. You’ll also discover Snow White references. All of this makes the movie very interesting, along with Addams and Rudolph some wasted numbers, like “Badder,” not to mention featuring Idina Menzel every chance you get.

In the heart .. or in the middle Frustrating It is a story about mothers and daughters, and it is a heartfelt story. Like a good but forgotten Disney+ movie, godmotherAnd the This is a great trend in movies and broadcast networks. Shankman’s filmography isn’t perfect, but his experience working with musicals works well here. This is a musical well worth watching with the family despite its flaws.
