Christine McVie, the singer-songwriter behind some of Fleetwood Mac’s biggest hits, died Wednesday after a brief illness, according to a statement posted by her family  on her verified Instagram account.

The British singer-songwriter was behind hits such as Little Lies, Everywhere, Don’t Stop, Say You Love Me and Songbird.

She died peacefully at a hospital in the company of her family, a statement said.

“On behalf of the family of Christine McVie, it is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the death of Christine. She passed away peacefully in hospital this morning, Wednesday November 30, 2022, after a short illness,” says the statement. “She was in the company of her family.”

The statement went on to read: “We kindly ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this extremely painful time, and we would like everyone to hold Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved. universal.”

Fleetwood Mac became one of the most famous rock bands in the world in the 70s and 80s.

Their 1977 album Rumors – inspired by the break-ups of the McVies and the band’s other couple, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks – became one of the biggest sellers of all time, with more than 40 million copies sold worldwide.

McVie was one of the eight members of the band who was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

The statement continues, “We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together we deeply cherished Christine and are grateful for the great memories we have. She will be so dearly missed.”
