We review the Netflix documentary series Blood, Sex & Royalty Season 1, which was released on November 23, 2022.
For those fully invested in the royal lineage and European RenaissanceAnd the Netflix He has created a unique series that captures her in the best light. The three episodes currently airing focus on Queen Anne BoleynWho ruled for three years from 1533 to 1536.
During this period, she had developed her own identity at court and wanted nothing more than to find love. She never wanted to be a mistress and wanted so many things to help her country. These episodes feature real historians retelling Boleyn’s story to fill in the gaps, while there is a fictitious interview with Anne (Amy James Kelly) as they go into detail about certain events.
James Kelly takes the role of Pauline and makes it her own. You break the fourth wall and make clear communication with the audience when you speak to them. A mixture of interviews, docudrama, and mock interviews make this a unique series that could continue with different British royal dramas.
It’s something that hasn’t been done before, and having episodes explore the Tudors is pretty exciting considering what we’ve learned about them so far. It’s a gripping docuseries that puts the viewer into the mindset of King while filling in all the background knowledge of who they really are.
Politics in the 16th century was vastly different as they viewed women as objects, but it took one woman to regain power. Pauline is an incredible woman, and she has fallen into a trap Henry Tudor in its own way.
All she wanted was a loving husband, but it turned into a thirst for power and absolute control over him. Once a woman has power over anything, she can devour her and lose her way. Unable to give her husband an heir, Boleyn had a difficult life as queen.
She had a daughter, then miscarried shortly after, and after experiencing this kind of loss, it’s hard to get back into shape. Her mind was not present when discussing her future with Henry because she was so absorbed in giving him an heir.
The most interesting part is how she and her sister are back together again after such separate relationship. What ultimately happens between them is unforgivable, and Anne suffers a breakdown. It is as if no one in court could be trusted because of the hunger for power.
No one would stand in Henry’s way, including his wife. This is by far one of the most interesting projects to hit Netflix this year, and it’s fun to watch if you’re a fan of those historical stories.
