The second major patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 will improve the game’s performance – especially in Act 3, where it often struggles – and launch a move to develop the game’s epilogue, including fleshing out the character’s endings of Karlach, as many fans have requested.
That’s according to a new community update that developer Larian Studios released on Steam on Tuesday. The developer wasn’t specific about the timing of patch 2, but said it was “just around the corner.” Larian has been updating the game at an impressive rate since its launch four weeks ago, already pushing out several fixes and a major bugfix patch.
With Patch 2, the team said its focus will expand beyond bug fixes to performance improvements and addressing some of the most common fan requests. Larian also took the time to respond to proliferating community reports of “cut content” that had been datamined, rejecting claims that this was the result of a rushed release of the game. Larian argued that most Reported cut content was either the result of bugs – for example, reactions from companions not triggering as they should – or deliberate creative decisions that Larian made for the good of the game.
One of those decisions was to streamline the game’s epilogue “because we were afraid the ending cutscenes would become too long and detract from the epic nature of the experience,” Larian said. However, this is being revised in the face of fan disappointment at the resolution – or lack thereof – of several story threads. “Definitely, not everyone agrees with us! So we’re going to do something about it.

Separately, Larian has announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming to Xbox Series X|S later this year. However, the Series S edition will not include co-op, although it may come post-launch. The PS5 edition arrives on September 6, but no date for the Xbox version has been announced.
The RPG officially launched on PC earlier this month after being in Early Access since 2020. It has seen huge success, reaching a peak of over 875,000 concurrent players. For more, check out GameSpot’s guides hub for Baldur’s Gate 3.

Finally, there is something that is close to my heart: Karlach. This fiery companion will finally receive the ending we have all been asking for. Larian explains: “We have started expanding the epilogues and you will see the first results of this in patch 2 with the addition of a new optional ending with Karlach. It’s fiery, poignant and gives it the ending it deserves.
Personally, I couldn’t be happier with a patch; bug fixes, longer epilogues, fiery ending for Karlach, and the ability to change my character’s appearance throughout our journey. Oh, and I can finally kick my friends out of my party! Larian has clearly been working to bring fans exactly what they want in Baldur’s Gate 3, and that shows no signs of stopping anytime soon either.

The other is a feature that lets players get rid of co-op group members who join their campaigns, so they can continue without their offline friends’ avatars hanging around like ghosts. This will be presented fancifully as the wardrobe of Withers’ wayward friends. “Simply place any unwanted group members in this particular piece of paranormal, and they will be out of sight and mind until the joyous cooperation continues,” Larian said in a promotional image. Larian hopes to launch this feature “very soon”, indicating that it could at least appear in patch 2.
There’s no release date for Patch 2 yet – although Baldur’s Gate 3 releasing on PlayStation 5 on September 6 would be fitting, right?
