We’re reviewing the HBO Max movie A Christmas Mystery, which contains no spoilers.
HBO Max They keep getting us into the Christmas spirit with their latest movies on their streaming platform, Christmas puzzle. Does the movie live up to the title of being a mystery? Will adults like this? Or is this just for kids? Let’s dig deeper.
The movie begins with a narrator telling a story Jimmy Stebbins And golden jingle bells. Then we find out Pleasant Bay He had fallen on hard times due to a drought that caused many job losses. Then, little Jimmy sees some golden jingle bells fall from the sky off Santa’s sleigh. So he rang jingle bells and made a wish for the factory to reopen so the city could get back on its feet.
The next morning, the bells were still by his bedside, and he had a present under the tree. Shocked, his parents came to the tree and knocked on the door. The man tells them that the river is running and everyone will get their jobs back. He told little Jimmy the story of how he found the bells and made a wish, and it came true. The city took the bells and placed them in a museum. Since that Christmas, the city has experienced more than 100 years of boom times.
Fast forward to the present day, where we meet some of the Pierce family. You have a small child in Violet and teenage daughter materialand meet their father, Sheriff Pierce. At the police station, Sheriff Pierce mentions to his little girl that they had a 1099 call, code for a burglary, but unfortunately a false alarm (her words, not mine). Violet remembers that nothing happened in this town. However, the next morning, the jingle bells are gone from the museum. The city is in chaos.
after investigation , George BottomsA museum security guard has been arrested for stealing the bells. But George’s youngest son doesn’t believe his father would, so he enlists Violet, the mayor’s daughter, to help him find out who really did it.
See, the movie is really nice, though Violet McGraw, who played Violet Pierce, being an absolute delight on screen. Its stoutness and ability to carry scenes on its own make it easy to root. The rest of the cast play their roles well enough to move the story along just fine. There weren’t any leading shows, but everyone seemed to be having fun.
The story has so many child-like puzzle-like beats that it becomes somewhat redundant. It’s fiercely predictable, but some of Bullitt’s fast-paced writing makes some moments a blast. I was also surprised at how much I enjoyed the film’s score. It was this mixture of mystery and Christmas that was fun. You don’t usually get drawn to him in movies of this kind.
Inclusive, Christmas puzzle It’s heavily aimed at children, but I think adults can watch it without wanting to poke their eyes out. It’s an overly predictable mystery kids’ movie that relies heavily on Violet to carry the movie on her back, which she does. It’s innocent fun.
