Kworld trend / Kijiji Canada scam email, In the growing world of the Internet, it can be hard to tell what’s fishy and what’s not. There are two basic types of phishing emails that it is important to be able to identify.
Kijiji Canada scam email
Phishing occurs when scammers pretend to be a legitimate company or person to gain access to your information. They are usually looking to get your account login details, financial information or identity. .
If you receive a phishing email, forward all suspicious email addresses and websites as an attachment (we need the original email) to [email protected] and delete them immediately.
Money Scams
Money scams are attempts to convince others to send them money, often for something that doesn’t really exist. This is the most traditional type of scam. Many assume that only buyers are vulnerable to these types of scams, but there are some forms of these scams that target sellers.
Although they can come in many forms, they have similar warning signs:
They move the conversation to a new platform
To get around our security systems, scammers will often ask you to leave Kijiji and contact them through a private platform. If they ask you to respond to their personal email address instead of their disguised Kijiji email, be wary.
Note: These requests can sometimes be legitimate, but if they refuse to speak anywhere other than private email, it may be best to move on. Ask them to speak directly on the phone if they do not want to use Kijiji messages.
They cannot meet in person
Scammers work remotely. This is partly because they need to create a wide network to make money and partly for their own safety. They may have an elaborate alibi that makes it look legit. Some common stories are that they work in a remote mining town, that they are members of the military, or that they are buying a special gift for a family member.
Individual payment requests
Since scammers do not usually meet in person, they need the money digitally. They may ask you to send them money in an untrustworthy manner. Favorites include MoneyGram, Western Union, and other types of money transfers. They may also require payment through PayPal, but insist that you use the Friends and Family setting so you don’t get any protection.
Scams targeting buyers are generally simple, but there are two types:
- They ask you to pay for the car before you meet
- They ask for a deposit for a vehicle you haven’t seen
There are 3 main types of scams targeting sellers:
They insist that the car be shipped to them before payment.
They send you a payment note or receipt and ask you to transfer some money to them before the full payment can be made.
They send you a fake payment notice or receipt, and then ask you to transfer some of that money to a shipping company. It not only tells you about the company, but also which account number to use for the transfer.
If you see any of these signs, do not proceed further with the transaction and contact our customer service team to let us know.
Avoiding Reply Scams
Did you get a suspicious response to an ad you posted on Kijiji? Or maybe you got a weird response after responding to an ad? Here are some tips to stay safe when communicating with users;
When receiving responses regarding your ad, beware of communications that do not specifically indicate what your ad is about, such as:
Is there anything to add or does the ad say it all?
“I am willing to receive this item, can you give me your price and is the condition as listed?”
Such responses are sent out en masse by scammers in the hope of getting as many responses as possible. If you receive any of these responses, please contact Kijiji so we can remove their access to our site and prevent them from experiencing this on others.

The best rule of thumb while using Kijiji is to meet the person you are communicating with the good old fashioned way: face to face!
