Lookism Season 1
New Hyeong-Seok helps Deok-Hwa, a child who looks like an old version of himself, and encourages him to continue his singing. It breaks down the stigma in their school and breaks boundaries, allowing the pair to turn into good friends.
Hyeong-Seok’s old Deok-Hwa meets up with Jin-Ho. He finds kindness in them and shares their stories. They also talk about the amazing things the new Hyeong-Seok has done. Basco hears this even though he is aware of Hyeong-Seok’s new reality.
Episode 8 begins at the Jaewon Festival, where Hyeong-Seok is nervously waiting for his post to perform. After training 24/7 in both bodies, he’s finally ready to show his stuff. Of course, in his new and improved body instead of the old Hyeong-Seok.
Park Jin-Ho is there too, bullied by his peers as usual and forced to play as a time-keeper in a big fight that takes place between two jocks. There’s also arm wrestling, which Pascoe clearly excels at! He noticed Hyung-suk out of the corner of his eye. Hurry up to meet the girl who was really nice to old Hyung-suk, Choi Soo-jeong.
We’ve seen Su-Jeong show up at the store a few times throughout the series, giving old Hyeong-Seok some sweet words of encouragement. Here though she immediately puts her defenses up, likening the new Hyeong-Seok to every other kid in the school.
Hyeong-Seok manages to defend herself from her makeshift bodyguard Jong-Geon but before he can strike the final blow, Basco shows up and calls Hyeong-Seok’s new friend over, holding on to the guy.

Encouraged by his kind words, Hyeong-Seok decides to fight too, but Su-Jeong stops her before things get out of hand.
The day is dressed, and at the end the big performances are held. Hyung Suk and Deuk Hwa doing their best for “Fly Up”. The lights go down and there is a huge crowd. Deok-hwa immediately starts rapping, shocking everyone. As he delivers a perfect piece, Hyeong-Seok picks up in the chorus and the pair manage to put on a great performance.
In fact, the pair totally kills it, sending the crowd into a trance of ecstasy. They all start cheering and Deok-hwa gets the applause…or does he? Then, Deok-hwa is overlooked and Hyeong-Seok is given the business card from that music agent instead. Hyeong-Seok is offered a proposal and all the bells and whistles too, but he turns it down, not ready to betray his friend. Hyeong-Seok is determined to do the right thing for Deok-Hwa and stay by his friend’s side. Only, Deok-hwa is already gone, heading on the bus home.
Bigshot DG, a major K-Pop star, ends up watching the video as it goes viral on the Internet. Interestingly, Su-Jeong ends up hearing the song being performed and wonders how old Hyeong-Seok ended up singing the same thing. Interestingly, as the camera moves down, we see that she also has another plus size version of her. What a twist!
As the episode concludes, Hyeong-Seok goes home and drops the photos before we pan across the wall and see a whole bunch of other photos, the last one showing the two Hyeong-Seok together.
Last Episode Review
Lookism ends with a beautiful final chapter, and one that cements Hyeong-Seok’s standing with both new and old versions doing well to learn life lessons along the way. Seeing old Hyeong-Seok with two similar souls – freshmen who went through hell at school no less – is a really nice touch and the outside part speaks to their experiences vividly.
Likewise, Basco’s inclusion in this story was really good and his influence helped develop old and new Hyeong-Seok to the next level, which is great to see.
The finale certainly leaves things open for the next season, especially if the show is renewed and the story follows Su-Jeong instead. There’s plenty of material in there for you to follow into the plot, with the revelation that Su-Jeong also has an oversized version at home that opens up a world of possibilities for the next one. Let’s hope this gets renewed!
