New court documents released Wednesday detail how the suspected Camp Gorge shooter may have been hallucinating on psychedelic mushrooms at the time of the incident.
The suspect was identified this week as 26-year-old Joint Base Lewis McCord Private James Kelly. Kelly is accused of shooting Joselyn Ruiz, 26, and her partner, Brandi Escamilla, 29, of Seattle. Both women were pronounced dead at the scene.
Kelly is also charged with shooting and wounding Andrew Cuadra, 31, of Eugene. Oregon, and Lilly Lokisch, 20, of Mill Creek. According to the documents, Luksich was his girlfriend, and the two traveled together to the Beyond Wonderland festival.
Kelly told police he took a dose of the mushroom on Saturday night. While he and Luksich were on their way to the festival, he said he “began to feel the effects” of the drug and was hallucinating.
He then “began to think that the world had ended and that he needed to go back to his camp immediately with Loksich”.
The two rushed to the campsite, where Kelly went and obtained his handgun from a locked box. He had stored in the center console of his truck. Before loading a magazine and exiting the vehicle with weapon in hand.

Court documents go on to detail how Kelly shot and killed Ruiz and Escamilla. After the couple inadvertently crossed paths with him. Quadra had heard the gunfire, and after he had approached Kelly he was shot in the upper torso.
Kelly left the area near his truck while Lokisch called 911 and followed behind. When Crowd Management Services employee Lori Williams approached in a car. After hearing reports of the shooting, Kelly shot her, shattering the car’s windows and slashing her face.
From there, Kelly and Loksich moved to a nearby field, where Kelly fired at a Grant County Sheriff’s Office drone that had been sent to return gunfire.
As Kelly and Loksich continued along the fence line, he shot Loksich in the foot and upper leg, causing “permanent injuries”.
Kelly was then shot by a police officer and taken to a Spokane hospital in police custody.

Kelly is now being held in the Grant County Jail and faces charges of two counts of first-degree murder. Two counts of first-degree assault, and one count of domestic violence assault. Kelly was in court on Wednesday but has not filed a plea, and is being held without bail. He will return to court on July 5.
