Bank of Ireland said it was working to fix an issue with its mobile app and online banking platform Banking 365 that was currently affecting thousands of customers.

The Bank of Ireland’s mobile app and a section of their website are currently down due to an unexplained issue, leaving users unable to check their bank balance.

Customers were left particularly upset by the outage as many had hoped to check their bank balance and salaries on the last Friday of the month.

The disruption alarmed dozens of Bank of Ireland customers who took to social media for clarificationu. And to vent their frustrations.

Many customers have reported being unable to access the bank’s mobile app and 365Online platform. With the first complaints appearing on social media at around 9am this morning.

When clients tried to use the application, they were met with an error message saying: “The SSL certificate is invalid. The server cannot be trusted.”

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a network protocol designed to secure communications. Between web clients and web servers over an unsecured network, such as the Internet.

One Twitter user said: “Anyone having issues logging in to the @bankofireland mobile app? Getting a message saying there is a problem with the SSL certificate.”

Another asked on Twitter: “What’s going on with the Bank of Ireland?”

A third claimed: “It is not possible to access the Banking365 app or perform online transactions.”

Another person said: “bankofireland what’s going on with the app and 365 online? You can’t access either..”
