Back on March 10, star Anna Cathcart shared an Instagram pic of herself in Seoul with the caption: “Home for the next few months.” XO, Kitty has now officially started filming in the South Korean city, and Netflix has shared the first look of the show’s cast.

Joining Anna Cathcart in XO, Kitty is actor Minyeong Choi, who will play Kitty’s boyfriend Dae. You might remember the character Dae from the third installment of the original trilogy, To All the Boys: Always and Forever. While Lara Jean, Margot, Kitty, and their dad visit Seoul during spring break, Kitty asks a cute stranger to take the family’s photo in front of the lock fence at Namsan Tower. Right then, Kitty and Dae have the ultimate meet-cute, and the rest is history.

Kitty’s very own show is definitely well-deserved, as the character is a TATB fan-favorite. We can’t wait to see what the witty and ambitious young feminist will get up to in South Korea. Kitty is as fearless as ever, traveling the world to learn more about her late mother and follow her heart in the process. But the course of true love never ran smoothly…and her reunion with distant boyfriend Dai may not go as planned. Fortunately, there are plenty of new friends, potential love triangles, and family secrets to keep her occupied while studying in Seoul.

“I kind of grew up with Kitty next to me,” Cathcart told Teen Vogue’s Michelle Hyun Kim earlier this month. “[We] learn through each other, which is really cool.” The Vancouver native began her career in children’s media, working on the Descendants franchise before heading to All the Boys and its short-lived spin-off, Zoe Valentine. As XO, Kitty for the first time, Cathcart has just finished her freshman year of college, studying sociology and creative writing.

Minyeong Choi away from Dae

The role of Dae was previously portrayed by Hoyoung Jeon, and Minyeong Choi took on the role of Dae as the long-distance Harry Potter-hating BF. XO, Kitty is Choi’s first American production, and he finds himself drawn to the ordinary beauty of Dae, an observant student, brother, son, and friend.

“He’s an ordinary guy. He’s nothing special. He has no talent,” Choi told Teen Vogue’s Sara Delgado before the premiere. “ But what I loved about Day was that he had a warm heart. He knew how important small gestures are and how important love is. This was the main idea of ​​Dai for me. He knew how important love was so he could give up things for love. I’m not just talking about Kitty, I’m talking about loving his younger sister, his family, his friends, and maybe himself.”

Choi has acting goals that include musical theatre, as well as dreams beyond acting, including becoming a singer-songwriter and running his own company.

In the first episode, Kitty meets Min Ho at the airport, taping the KISS logo to his jacket – though he ignores her and pretends not to speak English as a way to avoid her. Min Ho is played by Sang Heon Lee, a Korean-born and Hong Kong-raised acting newcomer who loved films like The Dark Knight to Guy Ritchie and K-noir comedy films like Friend, Gabe Bergado said in an interview with Teen Vogue. Australian actor Peter Thornwald plays Alex, a young teacher and kitty’s mentor who turns out to be at the heart of one of XO’s mysteries, Kitty’s Mysteries. Along the way, it is another source of stability for Kitty as she experiences the pains of growing up in a different country.

Thurnwald grew up on the Gold Coast, Australia and was a theatrical kid who studied physics at the University of Queensland for a while, until he was found by a casting agent who launched his acting career. He’s since been a featured extra in King Kong: Skull Island and Thor: Ragnarok, with bigger roles recently in the Australian series Bump and now, XO, Kitty.
