OpenAI has released an iOS app for ChatGPT, and promises to release an Android version “soon.” The app is free to use, syncs your chat history to the web, and features voice input, powered by OpenAI’s open-source Whisper speech recognition model. The app works on both iPhones and iPads and can be downloaded from the App Store here. OpenAI says it will roll out the app in the US first and expand to other countries “in the coming weeks.”
OpenAI hasn’t previously hinted that a mobile app is coming, but that makes sense in light of ChatGPT’s incredible popularity. The AI-powered chatbot launched last November, but its use has skyrocketed. Some outside estimates say the app has attracted 100 million users by January of this year, though OpenAI has never confirmed those numbers.

OpenAI is releasing a standalone ChatGPT app for iOS and Android is soon to get one too.
For example, the app supports voice input powered by the company’s open-source speech recognition model Whisper. It also syncs your chat history from ChatGPT web version and other devices with your account login.
Of course, ChatGPT Plus subscribers get access to the upgraded GPT-4 version, early access to new features that may be coming in the future and faster response times.
As of now, iOS users can download the app from the App Store (source link below) in the US, but other countries should get it soon too. The same goes for Android users.

OpenAI iOS app review
The OpenAI iOS app is a great tool for anyone interested in AI and machine learning. The app is well designed and easy to navigate, with a wide range of resources and information available at your fingertips. Whether you are a student, researcher, or simply interested in AI, this app is an excellent starting point, and one of the standout features of the OpenAI iOS app is the interactive tutorials. These tutorials provide a hands-on approach to learning AI concepts and allow users to experiment with real-world problems. The app also includes a section on research and current news in the field, which is useful for staying up to date with the latest developments.
The only thing that could be compelling about the OpenAI mobile app versus the AI integration of search apps is its ad-free nature. OpenAI alludes to this in its blog post, stating that users can get instant answers “without sifting through ads or multiple results.” This statement is a stealth burner for its own partner, as Bing is already moving ads to the AI-powered Bing Chat, as well as somewhat ignoring search engines.
Even the App Store description of ChatGPT describes its ad-free nature, as this is one of the few features it mentions along with the ability to sync your history and access the latest models from OpenAI.

Nice and fast!
On this app, unlike on the website, answers seem to appear much faster. That’s cool, and it’s really the reason I downloaded the app because I suspected there might be a better connection to the servers.
My complaint is that it takes two clicks to get to the registry, and it’s not overly clear how to get there. I like being able to easily follow past conversations, and it was more difficult on this app than on the website. (It’s kind of a nitpick, but it’s still something I’d like to change)
Overheating issues with the app
I’ve been using the ChatGPT iOS app for a while now, and while I appreciate its language capabilities, it’s really incredible how quickly my device starts heating up as soon as I launch the app. Not only does it make the app uncomfortable to use, it also raises concerns about potential damage to my device in the long run. I’ve tried closing other apps and making sure my iPhone is up to date, but the problem persists. This overheating issue is exclusive to ChatGPT, as I haven’t had similar issues with other apps on my device.
