He admitted that it bothered him a little as people that it was not a position and that there was no need for an athlete to play it because it was not important and could be played by anyone. William Ray Guy was born on December 22, 1949. He was born in Swainsboro, which is a small town in Central Georgia. He was born to Benjamin Frankin Guy who worked as a building contractor and Annette Guy who worked as a schoolmaster’s aide.

Ray Guy attended Thomson High School in Thomson, Georgia. He was active in sports from a very young age and Ray Guy was a four-sport star at his high school. Ray Guy used to be part of not only the football team, but also both basketball and baseball teams.
Even though he was not trained in it, he definitely excelled in all three. While playing for Southern Mississippi, Guy played both punter and placekicker. Ray Guy was the most valuable player of the Chicago College All-Star Game in 1973 after his senior season.
Once in his Hall of Fame induction speech, RayGuy said that he played different positions throughout his high school and college games and also that he was good at athletics and could have been a baseball or basketball player, but he knew that God had something special for him.
