Kworld Trend / flashfood app download review, Before we wrote this Flashfood review, we had been trying out the Flashfood app for a few months. That’s what we thought.

What is Flashfood? Flashfood is an app that says it will help you save money and reduce waste by buying food that is close to its best date. For now, it’s available in Canada and Wisconsin, but they say they have plans to expand

I first heard about Flashfood when a friend of mine mentioned that she was using the Flashfood app to save on groceries.

It sounds too good to be true, so what’s the point?

There is no catch! Grocers work hard to reduce waste. By partnering with Flashfood, they can sell food that’s close to its best by date faster and more reliably because of our passionate Flashfoodies. For the grocer, that means less waste. For our shoppers, that means a steady stream of deals. Real win! To date, more than 2 million users have helped get more than 20 million pounds of delicious food onto dinner tables—instead of landfills.

The biggest reason of all

Just in case the sheer pleasure of a great meal at a great price isn’t enough – shopping with Flashfood means you’re directly helping reduce food waste in your community.

30-40% of food is wasted in the United States and it is the largest category of material placed in municipal landfills in America. When good food is sent to a landfill, it decomposes and releases methane – a greenhouse gas even more brutal than carbon dioxide. That’s why we’re here. Who knew serving the planet could be so tasty, too?

How much money can you save?

I found most of the deals were at about 50% off the regular price.

What kind of food is on Flashfood?

I’ve found dairy, meat, pantry, and even produce boxes on Flashfood.

What is the choice? | flashfood app download review

In my local Superstore, there are usually only 10-30 items available on the app at one time. It’s definitely not for everyday shopping, because the items you want might not be on the app all the time.

I really like to use Flashfood when I get groceries anyway. I’m just browsing through the app quickly, and order some items at a discount.

Is the food about to expire?

This is not always the case. I’ve had a lot of items from Fastfood with a week or so left until expiration. Even items with a shorter expiration date still give me a few days to eat them before the expiration date.

Do I need to wait in line?

Since you’re picking up Flashfood from customer service at your local grocery store, you may need to wait in line if there are a lot of people in customer service.

I’ve never had to wait in line, but I’ve taken Flashfood orders in the middle of the week, during the day, when it’s quieter in the store.

Both times I went to pick up my order they were out of one of the items I purchased. The first time, customer service sent someone to pick up a replacement, and that took an extra two or three minutes. No problem.

The second time they were out of an item, customer service sent me to the store to pick up my item. Not really a problem, but I had no idea where the item was. With a little help from the Deli manager, I was able to find the item (rice noodles) in about five minutes.

Do I need to shop for my Flashfood groceries? | flashfood app download review

Yes and no. You don’t need to go to the main part of the store to shop, but you do need to pick each of your items in the Flashfood area of Customer Service.

There is a small customer service area where Flashfood groceries are stocked. At my local Superstore, this is a small pantry shelf, and a cooler for dairy and meat products. I just applied, got the few items I’d already paid for on Flashfood, and showed the customer service person my receipt on the app.

It takes less than 10 minutes to walk into the customer service at the front of the store, grab my items, and show my receipt to the cashier.

What stores are on Flashfood?

In the city where I live in British Columbia, Canada, my only options for Flashfood are two local Superstore locations.

After looking at the Flashfood website, it seems that most English Canadians offer Flashfood in supermarkets. In Ontario, it is offered in 131 stores that include Superstores, Zehrs, Masse’s No Frills, and Loblaws. In Quebec, Flashfood is available in some Maxi and Provigo stores.

Flash food at the dragon’s lair

If Flashfood looks familiar, that might be because it appeared in  Dragons Den  (Canada’s version of Shark Tank). They ended up getting a deal from two dragons.

My final verdict on Flashfood | flashfood app download review

Overall, I really liked Flashfood. I’ve gotten some great deals with the app, and have found that it works really well.

What I like about Flashfood

I saved money! Most items were about 50% off, which is a great deal.

The app was easy to use.

It’s great for the environment! With Flashfood, I’ve helped use up perfectly good food that was likely destined for landfill.

What I didn’t like about Flashfood

I don’t like not having a dedicated Flashfood cashier in my Superstore. I was lucky, and didn’t have to wait in line, but I’ve seen 10 person deep lines to serve Superstore customers at times and it would stink to have to wait that long for a simple truck.
