1957 Jerry Jones photo, what happened?!
Jerry Jones has been involved in problems before, but this most recent one about the 1957 Jerry Jones photo could be the most damaging. On November 23, The Washington Post published an article with a picture of Jones in a somewhat compromising situation; the picture was taken in 1957 in front of Little Rock High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, and appeared to show Jones as part of a group of students opposing the school’s desegregation.
1957 Jerry Jones photo
The Washington Post ran an article on Wednesday, Nov. 23, that featured a 1957 Jerry Jones photo of Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, on September 9, 1957, as a part of a group seeking to prevent the North Little Rock Six from entering North Little Rock High School.
Although it’s unclear if Jones was actively protesting the school’s segregation, the Washington Post piece notes that images suggest Jones may have had to make an additional effort to avoid the North Little Rock Six to keep them from entering the building. Hence, it’s more of an “effort” than a curiosity.
Jones’ presence in the image and the Washington Post article has once again brought to the public the fact that the Cowboys are still one of just seven NFL teams without a Black or minority head coach.
Despite the NFL having a predominately Black player base, 13 teams have never employed a Black head coach. These teams include:
- The Bills
- Patriots
- Ravens
- Titans
- Jaguars
- Cowboys
- Commanders
- Giants
- Saints
- Falcons
- Panthers
- Rams
- Seahawks
